Wanna Go Plae?

Okay, I know I'm late to the party. PLAE shoes has been around for awhile now and I should have found them a long time ago. But I'm writing this anyway, in case some of you are as late as I am.

There's a new kids shoe in town and it looks to be absolutely perfect for the trials and tribulations that kids put their footwear through at Preschool or Kindergarten. It's also ECO-friendly, with a fun design and available in a wide spectrum of colors. Not interested? Well, there's more:

For example; Plae uses responsible, non-toxic and recycled materials (from PET bottles), and they make sure that their manufacturing and labor is fair and child-free. The shoes apparently have great shock absorption, durable toe guards, and they are washable! (Seriously! Like in the washing machine washable!) They only use environmentally friendly packaging for their products and all their models work with orthotics and AFOs. All of the above are characteristics that I (as a parent) feel good about.

But here's the kicker: Plae designs shoes with kids in mind - without making them ugly. The "tabs"  used for fastening the shoe is replaceable which allows the kid to take part in the design of his/her shoes and for me as a parent to match the shoes accordingly with my kid's outfit.

MAX, the high top
SAM, the fisherman (sandal)
There are several models and each and every one is available in different colors and patterns.
New for this spring is a summer sandal that I'm dying to try out on Willem (since he plays hard and often in water), but I would also LOVE the grey camo hightop for spring or next fall.
TY, the sneaker

TY, the sneaker
ROAN, the original

I'm always a sucker for white sneakers like AF1's or Stan Smiths and the original Timberland boot will always be a favorite. But honestly? A white sneaker never will be a good choice for wild play in dirt, mud and puddles. Neither will a suede boot. So I'm going to go with a more fun choice for preschool this spring. I'm even getting replaceable tabs.
Extra exchangeable TABS

Plae used to ship out only from the US or Canada but as of this spring you can get them from vendors in Europe as well. It looks like Natives Shoes might actually get competition for the summer-shoe spot in our house.

To wrap it up; here are a few words of wisdom from the Plae website. I just feel like the founders of this brand know exactly what they are talking about.

The Grown-up's Guide to Plaetime

Get Messy.

Make-believe first. Logic second.

Share. Even your ice cream. (Especially your ice cream.)

To find your way, try getting lost.

Look up. Jump in. Rock out.

Curiosity kills boredom. The cat is indestructible.

Bouncing cures almost everything.

Ask questions. Lots and lots and lots of questions.

Anyone can be a princess.

Most monsters are imaginary.

Keep an eye out for magic.

Take the leap. Forget the fall.

Patterns are best mixed.

More colors are better than one.

Boo-boos mean cool Band-Aids.

Get excited for tomorrow.

Maintain a healthy skepticism for adulthood.

Chase your wonder.

Insist on story time.

Make lots of best friends.

Hug your mom. And your dad, too.

Invent your own game. Your own lyrics. And your own rules.

Say please and thank you.

Play. Every day.
